The stay
Warm, sheltered and quietly romantic.
Fairy Fort is the stay guests picture when they think of Rosemount: canvas walls, a very comfortable double bed, soft lighting, rugs underfoot and a wood pellet stove that takes the edge off a Cooley evening.
It sits in its own private pocket of the garden, sheltered by stone walls and planting, with the peninsula opening out beyond.

- A very comfortable made-up double bed with soft lighting. Bedsheets and towels are supplied. A single bed can be provided at an additional cost — price on enquiry.

- Its own wood pellet stove inside the tent for colder nights and months, and electricity in the tent.

- A fully stocked kitchen with a fridge, gas ring, gas BBQ and charcoal BBQ, with a covered space for cooking and eating outside.

- Its own private outdoor area with seating and space to cook and sit out into the evening.

- A hot outdoor shower under the trees — one of the things guests remember most.

- Carlingford village, the deserted village a short stroll away and walking trails on the doorstep. The ferry crossing is about 5 minutes by car, though the service is not running at present.
Finding it
A small painted sign, and a path lit all the way up
You arrive to a chalk-written sign at the bottom of the path and a line of little lights running up the hill ahead of you, along the stone walls and off towards the shelter.
It is a short walk, and by the time you reach the top most people have already gone quiet.
Outside your door
A lawn, a stone wall and the peninsula beyond
The tent opens onto its own level lawn, edged with hand-built stone walls and planting, with the flue rising beside the canvas and gorse on the bank behind.
It is a sheltered pocket of the garden — somewhere to sit out with a mug in the morning and not see another soul.
Your own corner
Two chairs, a barrel and nowhere else to be
Under the tree there are two chairs and a low table, and an old whiskey barrel standing on stone at the edge of the lawn.
It is a very small thing, and it is where most of the afternoon tends to go.
Cooking outside
Dinner with the lough in front of you
The covered kitchen area has a gas ring and gas BBQ, a charcoal BBQ built into the brick and stone, a sink with running water and a counter to work on.
Everything is already here — bring your food and your drink, and eat looking out over the fields to Carlingford Lough.
Inside
A proper bed, a real stove, soft light
The double bed is made up on a timber base with bedsheets, towels and a little something waiting for you when you arrive.
The wood pellet stove sits at the side of the tent beside a sofa, rugs and blankets, so cooler nights are part of the pleasure rather than something to endure.
The doorway
Fields, then the sea, framed by canvas
From the bed, the open doorway holds the whole view: rugs, the stone wall, the fields dropping away and the sea sitting flat along the top of it.
Guests tell us they lay there far longer than they meant to, just looking out.
After dark
The evening becomes the plan
As the light goes, the trees and the shelter come alive with fairy lights and lanterns, and the canvas turns warm and gold from the inside.
Most guests find they stop making plans altogether and simply stay put.
